New reservoir for a dairy farm, Partridge Green, West Sussex

There is a rise in the number of on-farm reservoirs being constructed. This is due to hotter, drier summers; the long-term threat of decreasing water availability, and new demands on the agricultural sector. Building an on-farm reservoir is an important way to improve your water security.

Our specialist agricultural services were deployed for the construction of this brand-new reservoir for a dairy farm in Partridge Green, West Sussex. The new fully compliant reservoir will give the dairy farm far better control over their water supply.

Our understanding of the local geology and soils, and expertise in reservoir construction, was key to the success of the project. The work included the excavation of the new reservoir to a depth of three metres, installation of a drinking water supply system and concrete base and rings for the pumping station.

A dairy farm requires a lot of water; a good storage facility and an efficient, reliable pumping system to supply fresh drinking water when needed. Cows typically require four litres of water per milk produced. With the new reservoir and pump plant, this dairy farm will now be able to rely on the continuous supply of clean water they need.
