Sand school for an equestrian property, Warnham, West Sussex

This equestrian sand school project for our clients from Warnham, West Sussex, was to build a new 50 metre by 25 metre sand school.

This project involved, firstly, excavating and re-leveling the designated site with a fall of 12 inches for the dispersal of water, by removing the top soil and setting it aside to use later for landscaping the surrounding area.

Drainage channels were dug into the finished level over which a membrane was laid. Perforated drainage pipe was installed into these channels before being covered and compacted with 200mm of clean stone. The final layer applied was 200mm of silica sand which was thoroughly watered to provide stability.

Lastly, tanalised post and rail fencing was installed with a retaining board at the bottom to contain all the base materials. The chosen final top surface dressing for the silica sand was then mixed and graded level to finish.
